What Is Physiotherapy?

Unlike traditional medical care, physiotherapy is a drug-free, surgery-free way to care for disease, injury, and deformity. It helps manage pain and prevent disease through movement and exercise, manual therapy, and health education. Physiotherapy is especially useful in more complex cases involving ongoing pain and discomfort, but it has been proven beneficial for conditions of all severities.

More About Our Services

While some of our physiotherapy services are relatively self-explanatory, others are less common and more involved. To help you get a better idea of what we have to offer, we have compiled a list of short explanations of our alternative health care options.

Spinal Decompression
Proven to reduce neck pain and back pain by gently stretching the spine, spinal decompression allows for better positioning. This process is called tractioning. Spinal decompression promotes a healthier flow of water, oxygen, and nutrient-dense fluids within the spinal discs. The better your spinal position, the better your entire body is able to function.

Cold Laser Therapy

Cold laser therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT), uses modern technology to encourage the body to heal at a cellular level. It promotes the regrowth of healthy cells by transmitting specific wavelengths of light into the body tissue. The body tissue then absorbs the light, and unhealthy cells have a physiological reaction that leads to regeneration.

Ultrasound Imaging

Therapeutic ultrasound uses high-frequency, inaudible sound waves to treat a variety of soft tissue injuries. When these high-frequency sound waves are directed to soft tissues and joints, the rise in temperature increases blood flow to the region, relaxes muscle spasms, increases metabolism, and promotes a healing response.
Nerve and Muscle Stimulation
We use nerve and muscle stimulation to help reduce muscle spasms, minimize pain, and bring down inflammation. Also called galvanic, this process makes the muscles contract on and off. It fatigues the muscles, which pump out lactic acid and speed up recovery time.

Intersegmental Traction

Intersegmental traction induces passive motion into the spine to stretch spinal joints and increase mobility. It helps reestablish a normal range of motion to the spine. Intersegmental traction tables are used to make an adjustment to the spine without excessive force.

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage is a physical therapy health care method used to address musculoskeletal pain and disability. It most commonly includes kneading and manipulation of muscles and joint mobilization. Therapeutic massage is beneficial for pain relief and injury rehabilitation.
Diathermy
Similar to electronic muscle stimulation (EMS), diathermy is used to stimulate blood circulation and relieve pain. It relies on radiofrequency to heat certain areas within the body without increasing external temperature.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point therapy, also known as myotherapy or neuromuscular therapy, involves the application of concentrated pressure to “trigger point” (irritated areas in the muscles). It is used to break cycles of spasm and pain. By placing pressure on the trigger point with the fingers, knuckles, and elbows, the muscles are able to relax and discomfort is relieved.

Kinesio Taping®

Designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process, Kinesio Taping provides support and stability to muscles and joints without limiting range of motion. It lifts the skin, accelerating blood flow to increase the amount of oxygen available to the muscles, which reduces fatigue. This also promotes lymph drainage to remove toxins produced by the body.
