The same type of bloated institutions that brought about the problems on Wall Street are now creating problems with healthcare delivery, driving doctors and patients crazy. Promises, promises, and then excuses. See what we are up against when we directly bill insurance companies. This is why we ask that insurance be between you and your insurance carrier. Better yet, consider using your company FLEX PLANS or HSA when possible.

Before You’re Seduced by the Lowest Bidder…

We’re often asked why our office isn’t on the list of chiropractors "approved" by their HMO or PPO. There are good reasons why we’re not on those lists. Allow me to let you in on a dirty little secret.

To become a network provider, a chiropractor has to agree to practice the way the HMO or PPO dictates. In exchange for a steady stream of new patients, he or she agrees to deliver only the most superficial amounts of patient care. Limiting care is profitable for the PPO/HMO, but it can compromise your results, your satisfaction and ultimately our reputation.

We remain independent so we can offer our patients the best care possible.

Further, to maximize profits, PPO/HMOs reimburse doctors at below-market rates. For an office visit worth $35, I might be paid $18 by them, plus your $10 co-pay. You can’t stay in business and lose $7 every time you see a patient. Something has to give. So, practitioners who agree to this scam make up the difference by shortening your visits, selling you expensive nutritional supplements or hawking orthotics, pillows and who knows what.

Frankly, it’s a bit embarrassing.

Worse, most PPO/HMOs seem more interested in paper than patients. Huge amounts of documentation and approvals are often required. It's time-consuming, raises costs and would take me away from my primary mission of helping you get well.

So we don’t belong.

Before you consult a chiropractor who has chosen to serve the corporate interests of an HMO or PPO over the interests of a patient, ask yourself this question, "What kind of chiropractor would agree to participate in an HMO or PPO?"

Think about it. Your health is your most valuable possession. Please don't gamble it with a chiropractor who may try to serve two masters, who is located clear across town, has to discount his or her services or who was merely the lowest bidder!

Should you reach the same conclusions we have, please call so that we may demonstrate what affordable, yet independent chiropractic care can do for you.

Dr. Schultz Asks some important questions of interest to Johnston residents - Chiropractor Johnston Dr. Schultz Asks...

Will chiropractic adjustments make my spine too loose?
No. Only the spinal joints that are fixated and "locked up" receive attention. The occasional spinal joint that moves too much is passed over so weakened muscles and ligaments can strengthen and heal.
Would you rather feel good or be healthy?
Ask most people in Johnston and they want to feel good. Careful! Would you take medicine that makes you feel good, rather than vomit to expel improperly prepared food? Every chiropractic practice member knows that you can't measure your health by how you feel. True health is when your body works as it should.
